Science and Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam held a bilateral meeting with Andrey Rozhdestvin, Director General of Rosatom Energy Projects Joint Stock Company, a subsidiary of Russia’s state atomic energy corporation Rosatom, in Washington, DC.
The meeting discussed progress on the construction of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, measures to expedite the supply of electricity generated by the plant to the national grid and broader bilateral cooperation in nuclear fuel and the energy sector.
The participants reviewed the project’s overall progress, the completion of remaining work and the technical and coordination measures required to connect the plant’s electricity to the national grid promptly while following established procedures.
The minister said the Rooppur plant would play an important role in meeting Bangladesh’s growing electricity demand, strengthening energy security and supporting long-term sustainable development.
He stressed the need for closer coordination among all relevant stakeholders to ensure the remaining work is completed efficiently and on time.
Rozhdestvin briefed the meeting on the latest progress of the project and expressed Rosatom’s readiness to work closely with Bangladesh to advance the project according to the agreed plan.
The meeting also covered the peaceful use of nuclear energy, nuclear power generation, technical cooperation, skilled workforce development and further strengthening bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.
