Bangladesh’s gross foreign exchange reserves fell to $36.15 billion as of September 29, according to the latest data from Bangladesh Bank.
Under the International Monetary Fund’s Balance of Payments and International Investment Position Manual (BPM6) methodology, the reserves stood at $31.30 billion.
The gross reserves stood at $36.31 billion on September 20, while the BPM6-based figure was $31.45 billion, indicating a modest decline in the country’s reserve position in the intervening period.
Meanwhile, remittance inflows have remained robust. Expatriate Bangladeshis sent $1.877 billion during the first 20 days of September, according to central bank data.
Of the total, around $130 million came in between September 17 and 19 alone. In comparison, remittances amounted to $1.869 billion during the first 19 days of September last year.
The steady inflow of remittances continues to provide support to the country’s foreign exchange position despite the recent decline in reserves.
