Bangladesh’s merchandise exports increased 8.54% year-on-year to $3.94 billion in September 2026, according to data from the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
Export earnings stood at $3.63 billion in September last year, meaning shipments increased by about $310 million this year.
The growth was largely driven by stronger ready-made garment (RMG) exports.
RMG exports rose 8.56% year-on-year to $3.08 billion in September, up from $2.84 billion a year earlier.
Leather and leather products, jute and jute goods, home textiles and pharmaceuticals also recorded significant growth.
Pharmaceutical exports surged 64.33% during the month.
During the July-September period of the current fiscal year 2026-27, Bangladesh’s merchandise exports grew 6.34% to $13.09 billion, compared with $12.31 billion in the same period a year earlier.
However, September’s export earnings were 11.11% lower month-on-month than the previous month, when exports reached $4.43 billion.
The latest figures come despite reports of gas and electricity shortages affecting factories, with some exporters expressing surprise at the increase in shipments.
