National Bank depositors to get full withdrawals

Depositors of National Bank PLC will be able to withdraw money according to their needs from October 15, with Bangladesh Bank directing the lender to ensure adequate cash at all its branches and ATM booths.

The directive was issued after National Bank Chairman Prof Dr Melita Mehjabeen and acting Managing Director Tahmidul Haque met Bangladesh Bank Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman on Thursday morning.

During the meeting, the bank’s chairman briefed the governor on its recent situation, saying steps taken by Bangladesh Bank had helped improve governance at the lender. Changes had also been made in the management to improve the bank’s efficiency and operational capacity.

The governor said Bangladesh Bank had recently taken note of National Bank’s liquidity position and depositors’ difficulties in withdrawing funds according to their needs.

He instructed the bank to take necessary measures to protect depositors’ interests, maintain public confidence in the banking system and ensure smooth banking operations.

In particular, National Bank was directed to ensure that all depositors could withdraw their money as required.

Under the Bangladesh Bank directive, National Bank must ensure sufficient cash at all its branches and ATM booths from October 15, 2026, so that depositors can withdraw funds according to their requirements.

Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governors Dr Md Habibur Rahman, Dr Md Kabir Ahmed, Md Sarwar Hossain and Md Anisur Rahman were present at the meeting.
