Gold prices have dropped significantly in Bangladesh after two consecutive increases, with the price of 22-carat gold reduced by Tk 3,324 per bhori, the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) announced on Friday.
According to a BAJUS statement, the new prices took effect from 10:00 am on Friday.
Under the revised rates, the price of 22-carat gold has been set at Tk 220,858 per bhori (11.664 grams), including VAT, down from Tk 224,182.
The association said the price adjustment was made following a decline in the price of pure gold in the local market.
The new prices are: 22-carat: Tk 220,858 per bhori; 21-carat: Tk 210,943 per bhori; 18-carat: Tk 181,200 per bhori; Traditional gold: Tk 148,016 per bhori
BAJUS said the revised prices will remain in effect at all jewellery stores until further notice. Labour charges will continue to vary depending on the design of the jewellery.
The association also noted that customers will not be charged VAT separately, as VAT is already included in the retail price of gold and silver jewellery. Existing rules for jewellery exchange and buyback transactions will remain unchanged, excluding specified VAT, labour charges and the value of stones.
BAJUS had last revised gold prices on July 22, when it increased the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 2,741 per bhori to Tk 224,182, including VAT.
