Rajshahi: The Rajshahi University (RU) authorities have formed an inquiry committee to investigate allegations that some faculty members are secretly associated with the banned Awami League. The five-member committee has been instructed to submit its report as quickly as possible.

The university said that if the allegations are proven, the accused teachers could face disciplinary measures, including compulsory retirement, dismissal, or termination from service.

The decision was announced in an office order signed by Acting Registrar Professor Iftikharul Alam Masud on Wednesday night. The university’s Public Relations Office later confirmed the development through an official statement.

According to the office order, recent reports from various media outlets and other sources claim that 404 teachers from 22 public universities have allegedly maintained secret communication with former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the banned Awami League. The reports also include the names of several teachers currently serving at Rajshahi University.

To determine whether any university faculty members are involved, the authorities have constituted an inquiry committee.

The committee is headed by Professor Md. Rezaul Karim of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Its members are Professor Md. Golam Sadik of the Department of Pharmacy, Professor Mohammad Amirul Islam of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Professor Md. Anisur Rahman of the Department of Zoology. Professor Md. Gias Uddin Ahmed of the Department of Agronomy and Agricultural Extension will serve as the committee’s member secretary.
