Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday met teachers and students from educational institutions across Bangladesh, along with a group of foreign students, during a break in the ongoing parliamentary session at the Jatiya Sangsad.
The prime minister exchanged greetings with the visitors, inquired about their studies and encouraged them to equip themselves with knowledge and skills to contribute to nation-building.
State Minister for Local Government Mir Shah Alam and Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman accompanied the prime minister during the interaction.
The meeting took place as part of an initiative that allows teachers and students from educational institutions to observe parliamentary proceedings and gain firsthand knowledge of the country’s legislative process.
Earlier in the day, the visitors toured the Jatiya Sangsad complex, viewed its renowned architecture, visited the parliamentary library and took photographs before observing the parliamentary session from the visitors’ gallery. The meeting with the prime minister took place during a recess in the House.
Among the visitors, 69 were teachers and students from educational institutions in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj, facilitated by Narayanganj-1 MP Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan (Dipu); 53 representatives, including 43 students and 10 teachers, from Notre Dame College; eight participants, including four students from the University of Oxford, arranged through Bangladesh Legal Aid; and an 18-member delegation facilitated by MP Fahmida Haque and the Centre for Governance Studies.
The visitors later resumed watching the parliamentary proceedings after the break.
