Bangladesh has urged the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to expand internship, fellowship and recruitment opportunities for Bangladeshi researchers, scientists and civil service officials.
The proposal was made during a bilateral meeting between Science and Technology Ministry Secretary Md Anwar Hossain and IAEA Deputy Director General for Management and Head of Human Resources Margaret Doane in Vienna on Wednesday.
The meeting focused on creating greater access to technical internships, targeted fellowship programmes and mid- to senior-level positions for qualified Bangladeshi professionals across the agency’s technical and administrative divisions.
The two sides also discussed greater participation of Bangladeshi youth, academics and technical professionals in advanced scientific programmes to develop specialised expertise in nuclear engineering and research.
Bangladesh emphasised the importance of strengthening cooperation with the IAEA to enhance the country’s technical capacity for the peaceful applications of nuclear science and technology.
The discussions also highlighted the need to develop institutional expertise and skilled human resources as Bangladesh advances its nuclear infrastructure safely and sustainably.
The Bangladeshi delegation included Toufiq Hasan, ambassador and permanent representative to the UN and international organisations in Vienna, and Dr M Moinul Islam, chairman of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC).
