Professor Md Lutfur Rahman, pro-vice-chancellor of National University, has been appointed the new vice-chancellor of Dhaka Central University (DCU).

The Ministry of Education’s Secondary and Higher Education Division announced the appointment in a notification signed by Assistant Secretary Md Sultan Ahmed on Saturday.

According to the notification, Rahman was appointed under Section 11(1) of the Dhaka Central University Act, 2026.

His tenure will be four years from the date he joins the university. However, if he reaches the statutory retirement age before completing the term, his tenure will end upon reaching that age.

As vice-chancellor, Rahman will receive the salary and allowances equivalent to those of his current position, along with other benefits as prescribed by university regulations.

The notification also requires him to reside on the university campus full-time as its chief executive officer. The president and chancellor, however, may cancel the appointment at any time if deemed necessary.

Professor Rahman previously served as a professor in the Department of Statistics at the University of Dhaka. He was most recently serving as the pro-vice-chancellor of National University.

Earlier, Professor Dr Md Nurul Islam was relieved of his post as DCU vice-chancellor and was later appointed vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University.
