Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) Vice-Chancellor Professor Sheikh Shariful Alam called an online syndicate meeting for Friday evening, but none of the university’s syndicate members confirmed their participation.
The meeting was scheduled for 6pm on October 16, following the vice-chancellor’s return to Chattogram Circuit House after receiving treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
He had been rescued after remaining confined inside the university’s administrative building for around 30 hours.
Professor Md Rashidul Hasan, dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning and a syndicate member, said he was on leave and was unsure whether he could attend.
Another syndicate member, Professor Kazi Delwar Hossain, dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, confirmed receiving a message about the meeting but questioned whether calling a syndicate meeting through a mobile message complied with university procedures.
He said such notices were usually issued through the registrar’s office.
The meeting was called amid an ongoing crisis at CUET, where students have been protesting against the appointment of the new vice-chancellor and demanding the reinstatement of his predecessor.
The protests have disrupted academic activities at the university.
