HSC and equivalent examinees have been staging protests in Dhaka and several other districts on Tuesday, demanding the suspension of exams amid the flood situation and calling for the resignation of Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon.
Amid the growing unrest, education board officials held an online meeting and are set to sit for a face-to-face meeting to review the situation.
Prof Syed Aktaruzzaman Sara, chairman of the Dhaka Education Board and president of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee, said an online meeting had already been held with officials from all education boards.
He said field-level information did not indicate a situation requiring the suspension of examinations.
However, the matter would be reviewed at the in-person meeting before a final decision is made.
Earlier, the Education Ministry issued a notice around 12:30pm stating that exams would continue as scheduled in all boards except the Chattogram Education Board.
The notice was withdrawn shortly afterwards, with officials saying a revised statement would be issued.
A ministry official said the flood situation and students’ demand for postponing the exams were being seriously considered.
Meanwhile, after blocking roads at the Science Laboratory intersection, protesting students gathered at Shahbagh and the Dhaka University area, where they chanted slogans and demanded the education minister’s resignation.
The students had earlier gathered at the Science Laboratory intersection around 11am and blocked the road as part of their protest.
