The Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations began simultaneously across Bangladesh on Thursday, with more than 12.70 lakh students appearing under 11 education boards.
The examinations started at 10:00am with Bangla First Paper and will continue over 21 examination days, covering a total of 77 subjects.
According to the Ministry of Education, students from 9,439 educational institutions are taking part in the examinations at 2,697 centres under the country’s nine general education boards, the Bangladesh Madrasa Education Board and the Bangladesh Technical Education Board.
Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Abdul Khaleque briefed reporters at the Secretariat on Wednesday about the preparations for the examinations.
He said regular academic classes would continue at educational institutions on days when no public examinations are scheduled.
Of the total candidates, 12,70,583 are expected to sit for the examinations this year. Under the nine general education boards alone, 10,69,714 students are appearing, including 6,21,969 male and 6,48,614 female candidates, with female examinees outnumbering males by 26,645.
The number of candidates under the general education boards has increased by 14,316 compared with last year. The number of participating institutions has also risen by 77, while 21 new examination centres have been added.
This year, all nine general education boards are conducting examinations using a uniform set of question papers.
To ensure transparency and prevent irregularities, CCTV cameras have been installed at every examination centre. A central monitoring cell has also been established at the Ministry of Education to monitor examination activities across the country in real time.
Under the Bangladesh Madrasa Education Board, 92,905 students are appearing this year, an increase of 6,803 from last year. The board has also added 23 educational institutions and two examination centres.
Meanwhile, 1,07,964 candidates are sitting for examinations under the Bangladesh Technical Education Board, which is 1,647 fewer than the previous year. The number of examination centres under the technical board has declined by 123 to 610.
The authorities have urged students, guardians and teachers to cooperate in maintaining a fair, peaceful and orderly examination environment across the country.
