Newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), Professor Dr. Abu Sadat Mohammad Sayem, has emphasized leveraging Bangladesh’s natural resources and strategic geographical position to expand the use of renewable energy.
He made these observations as the Keynote Speaker at a seminar titled “Renewable Energy for a Green Future,” held on Wednesday (July 29, 2026) at the auditorium of Abdus Sobhan Rahat Ali High School in Patiya, Chattogram. The seminar was organized in collaboration with the Embassy of Norway.
Professor Dr. Abu Sadat Mohammad Sayem, an alumnus of Abdus Sobhan Rahat Ali High School, was honored by his alma mater with a crest, a crest of honor, and a guard of honor upon his appointment as CUET Vice-Chancellor.
Speakers at the event stressed that transitioning to renewable energy is no longer a luxury but an urgent necessity to tackle global climate change, environmental pollution, and fossil fuel depletion. Highlighting ongoing national initiatives in solar power, wind energy, biogas, and waste-to-energy conversion, they urged students, researchers, and industries to work collaboratively toward energy security and a sustainable future.
Chaired by the school’s Headmaster ATM Toha and moderated by Assistant Teacher Nurul Amin, the event featured addresses to students by academics and representatives from the Norwegian Embassy in Dhaka, including Professor Henrik Engmo and Linnea Dahl.
The seminar was attended by Economic Affairs and Trade Advisor to the Norwegian Embassy Sayeed Muntasir Baoyezid, CUET Engineer Promit Ghosh, alongside local school headmasters, teachers, and alumni. The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session addressing students’ queries regarding clean energy technologies.
