Damaged floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at Moheshkhali has partially resumed operations, bringing some relief to the country’s strained gas supply network.
According to Petrobangla Chairman Md Abdul Mannan, the first unit of the floating LNG terminal is expected to become partially operational this week, while repair work on the second unit is progressing and is likely to be completed by August 10.
The terminal had been out of operation since July 21 following an accident that disrupted gas regasification and significantly reduced gas supply to the national grid.
The outage forced a cut of around 450 million cubic feet of gas per day, worsening shortages across the country.
Officials hope the gradual restoration of the terminal will improve gas availability for industries, power plants and households, although full operations will resume only after all repair work is completed.
