The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has adjusted the price of Jet A-1 aviation fuel for August, setting the duty- and VAT-free price for international flights at Tk159.52 per litre.
For international flights operated by both domestic and foreign airlines, the duty- and VAT-free price has been set at $1.038 per litre.
BERC Secretary Md Nazmul Hasan Sarkar disclosed the decision in a press release signed on Sunday.
The commission said the price adjustment was made under Sections 34(4) and 34(5) of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission Act, 2003.
In determining the revised price, BERC considered several factors, including international Jet A-1 prices, Platts rates, the US dollar exchange rate used in Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation’s letter-of-credit settlements and domestic transportation costs for jet fuel.
For the August pricing period, the commission considered published Platts rates and the dollar exchange rate applicable to BPC’s LC settlements between July 5 and August 4, 2026. Domestic transportation charges for Jet A-1 were also taken into account.
BERC said changes in international Jet A-1 prices and other associated costs during the period were also considered in determining the revised rate.
The new prices will take effect from midnight on August 9, meaning the revised rates will apply to the sale and supply of Jet A-1 from that time.
Jet A-1 is the principal aviation turbine fuel used by commercial aircraft and is a significant operating cost for airlines. Changes in aviation fuel prices can therefore affect airline operating expenses and, depending on market conditions and pricing policies, may have implications for airfares.
BERC said detailed information on the revised Jet A-1 pricing formula and rates has been published on its website. Relevant activities will be carried out in accordance with the commission’s order.
