Excelerate terminal stops gas supply again

Gas supply from the Excelerate Energy-operated floating LNG terminal at Maheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar was suspended on Wednesday after its LNG stock ran out due to the absence of a new LNG cargo.

The terminal stopped supplying gas to the national grid at around 2:40–3:00pm, according to officials. As a result, the country’s LNG supply is now largely dependent on Summit’s terminal.

The shutdown comes just four days after the Excelerate terminal resumed partial gas supply following an earlier disruption.

Officials said the latest suspension was caused primarily by a shortage of LNG cargo, rather than a technical problem.

The latest disruption is expected to further intensify Bangladesh’s ongoing gas crisis, putting additional pressure on industries, power generation and household consumers.
