Bangladesh has sought Norway’s technical and financial support for power auditing, renewable energy development and green investment, as the two countries discussed expanding cooperation in the energy sector.

The issues were discussed at a courtesy meeting between Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud and Norwegian Ambassador to Bangladesh Haakon Arald Gulbrandsen at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Thursday.

The meeting focused on ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, with particular emphasis on Norway’s participation in Bangladesh’s offshore bidding process, investment in renewable and solar power, and support for the country’s transition to clean energy.

The energy minister stressed the need to expand technology transfer, technical training and financial assistance from Norway to help implement Bangladesh’s renewable energy roadmap.

He also sought Norwegian technical and financial support for power auditing to improve transparency in the electricity sector, enhance the country’s ability to accurately assess actual power demand and reduce system losses.

Iqbal Hasan Mahmud said the government attaches importance to Bangladesh’s longstanding partnership with Norway and remains committed to creating a favourable environment for Norwegian investment in the power and energy sectors.

“Bangladesh welcomes greater participation by the Nordic countries in achieving its renewable energy targets and strengthening energy security,” he said.
