The Bangladesh government has raised the prices of all four major types of fuel by Tk 20 per litre, citing a significant rise in international fuel prices and freight charges amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Under the new prices, diesel will cost Tk 135 per litre, kerosene Tk 155, petrol Tk 160 and octane Tk 165, up from Tk 115, Tk 135, Tk 140 and Tk 145 respectively.
The revised prices will take effect from Monday, September 21, according to a notification issued by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division on Sunday night.
The government said international fuel prices and freight charges have risen sharply since March because of the ongoing Middle East conflict.
It added that the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation incurred losses of around Tk 22,875.66 crore between March and August as domestic prices were not fully adjusted in line with international prices.
The latest increase is expected to raise transportation and agricultural costs and could put additional pressure on the prices of essential commodities.
