Launch fares have been increased following the rise in prices of all types of fuel in Bangladesh.
The fare has been raised by 23 poisha per kilometre for the first 100 kilometres and by 20 poisha per kilometre for distances beyond 100 kilometres.
Shipping Minister Sheikh Robiul Alam confirmed the decision after a bilateral meeting at the Secretariat on Wednesday afternoon.
He said launch owners had demanded a 15% fare increase, citing higher fuel prices and rising operating costs. However, the government approved a 7.54% increase considering the interests of passengers.
The minimum launch fare has also been raised from Tk32 to Tk35.
