Bangladesh’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply increased to 1.092 billion cubic feet per day on Friday evening after remaining low throughout the day, easing concerns over the ongoing gas shortage.
According to Petrobangla data, LNG supply stood at 686 million cubic feet at 6pm on Thursday but rose to 1.092 billion cubic feet at 8pm Friday—an increase of 406 million cubic feet within a day.
The country’s total gas supply through the national transmission network reached 2.694 billion cubic feet at 8pm Friday.
Domestic gas fields supplied 1.602 billion cubic feet, while LNG accounted for the remaining 1.092 billion cubic feet.
LNG supply had dropped sharply due to adverse weather in the Maheshkhali area, which disrupted the transfer of imported LNG cargoes to floating storage and regasification units.
As weather conditions improved, LNG transfer resumed at Summit’s terminal in the morning. Later in the afternoon, transfer also began at Excelerate Energy’s terminal, helping boost overall supply.
Despite the increase, many areas of Dhaka experienced low gas pressure throughout the day, affecting households and CNG filling stations.
The impact of the increased supply was expected to reach consumers gradually as additional gas entered the national transmission network.
