Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood on Wednesday underscored the importance of expanding government-to-government (G2G) cooperation with Türkiye to help reduce the bilateral trade imbalance and deepen economic ties.
The minister made the remarks during a courtesy meeting with Turkish Ambassador Ramis Şen at his ministry office in Dhaka.
Welcoming continued Turkish investment, Iqbal Hassan Mahmood reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding Türkiye’s involvement in Bangladesh’s energy sector, particularly in liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply and other energy-related projects.
The Turkish ambassador congratulated the minister on assuming office and conveyed the continued goodwill of the Turkish government toward Bangladesh.
Leading a delegation, Ambassador Şen briefed the minister on the current state of bilateral relations, Turkish investments in Bangladesh and future trade and investment plans.
The two sides expressed satisfaction over the growing cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the energy sector, and discussed ways to further strengthen collaboration through increased investment and strategic partnerships.
The meeting also highlighted the potential for enhanced cooperation in energy security, trade and infrastructure development as both countries seek to deepen their longstanding bilateral relationship.
The Turkish delegation included Bilal Belyurt, Commercial Counsellor at the Embassy of Türkiye, and Harun Ortaç, Chief Executive Officer of United Aygaz LPG Ltd.
During the meeting, Ambassador Şen invited the energy minister to visit Türkiye to further promote bilateral cooperation and explore new areas of partnership. Iqbal Hassan Mahmood welcomed the invitation and expressed his interest in visiting Türkiye in the near future.
