Oil exports rise through Strait of Hormuz

30 September 2026 08:42 Updated: 30 September 2026 08:42

Middle Eastern crude oil exports rebounded to 16.328 million barrels per day in September, the highest level since the US-Israeli war with Iran began in late February, according to data from analytics firm Kpler.

The increase came as oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz recovered, with exports via the strategic waterway expected to reach around 9.719 million barrels per day during September.

Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates boosted shipments, while disruptions to the kingdom’s East-West pipeline and attacks on its Red Sea export route prompted Riyadh to redirect more oil through the Strait of Hormuz.

Despite the recovery, regional oil exports remained about 3.2 million barrels per day below February’s level of 19.513 million barrels per day.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global energy route, carrying a significant share of the world’s seaborne oil trade.
