The first consignment of nuclear fuel for the 1,200MW Unit-2 of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka from Russia on Friday, October 2.

The special cargo flight carrying the uranium is expected to reach Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around noon, following the resolution of an earlier complication over the use of Pakistani airspace.

The shipment will subsequently be transported to the Rooppur plant in Ishwardi, Pabna, under tight security arrangements, officials said.

The fuel deliveries for Unit-2 are scheduled to continue through December.

Seven cargo flights will be used for Unit-2, while two additional consignments will be brought in for refuelling Unit-1, making nine consignments in total.

The initial shipment was originally scheduled for September 24 but was postponed after the cargo flight failed to secure permission to use Pakistani airspace. Rosatom has said the remaining fuel supplies will be completed by the end of December.

Meanwhile, a key safety test at Unit-1 has recently been completed successfully, marking progress in the plant’s commissioning process.
