The government was forced to adjust LPG prices, said Prime Minister’s Information and Broadcasting Adviser Dr Jahed Ur Rahman on Tuesday.

He made the remarks during a regular briefing on the progress of various government activities at the Bangladesh Secretariat on October 6.

Jahed said the government had no choice but to adjust LPG prices. However, he said district commissioners had been instructed to strengthen monitoring to ensure consumers could purchase LPG at the officially fixed prices.

He also said enforcement of fines had been strengthened against irregularities and illegal stockpiling of LPG.

The adviser further said fuel for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant had arrived in Bangladesh on October 2.

Meanwhile, the government has doubled the amount of rice distributed under the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme, citing inflation and the overall economic situation.

“Considering inflation and the overall situation, 20kg of rice will now be distributed under the VGF programme instead of 10kg,” Jahed said.
