Dhaka: The price of a 12kg cylinder of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at the consumer level has been increased by Tk223 to Tk2,060 from the previous price of Tk1,837.

The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) issued a notification announcing the new price on Monday evening (November 2). The commission said the price had been adjusted following an increase in international market prices and higher commissions for importers, dealers and retailers.

The new price will come into effect at 8:00pm on Monday.

However, LPG has not been available on the market at BERC’s announced rates since last month. In October, the commission raised the price of a 12kg cylinder by Tk252 to Tk1,837, but the cylinders have been selling for Tk2,200 to Tk2,300 even in the capital.

BERC has also raised the price of autogas. The price per litre has been increased to Tk91.95 from Tk84.62. In September, the price of this fuel, used in vehicles, was Tk73.09 per litre.

The commission has also increased the commissions and charges for different market intermediaries.

Under the new decision, the importers’ storage and bottling charge, including transportation costs from operators’ plants to distributors, has been raised to Tk281.76 per 12kg cylinder from Tk200.

The dealers’ charge has been increased to Tk85 from Tk50, while the retailers’ commission has been raised to Tk70 from Tk45.

The LPG market has remained volatile since the third week of September. Following a rise in international prices, importers reduced supplies, pushing the price of a cylinder that was officially set at Tk1,585 to between Tk2,200 and Tk2,500 in some areas.
