Odisha’s Jyotirmoyee Nayak has emerged as the winner of the 16th season of the popular television reality show ‘Indian Idol’. Tanishk Shukla from Jabalpur was named the first runner-up.
The winners were announced on Sunday after a 10-month-long musical journey. According to India Today, the grand finale of Indian Idol Season 16 was held on July 26, where six finalists — Jyotirmoyee Nayak, Anshika Chonkar, Manraj Veer Singh, Maiskami Basu, Suhail Sufi and Tanishk Shukla — competed for the title.
Jyotirmoyee won the trophy along with a cash prize of Rs 20 lakh after receiving the highest number of audience votes. Manraj Veer Singh secured the third position, while the other runners-up received Rs 5 lakh each as prize money.
Overwhelmed after her victory, Jyotirmoyee said, “Winning Indian Idol Season 16 still feels unbelievable to me. I came to the auditions carrying a dream, and standing on the winner’s stage today has completely changed my life.
Every performance challenged me to become a better singer, a stronger performer and a more mature person. I will cherish everything I have learned during this journey forever.”
Expressing gratitude, she thanked Sony Entertainment Television and Fremantle for providing her with a platform to showcase her talent and helping her grow as an artist.
A native of Bhubaneswar, Odisha, Jyotirmoyee has already lent her voice to several Odia films. She believes music is not just a form of entertainment but also a medium of healing. She has been using music therapy to support cancer patients and people suffering from mental stress, regularly performing for patients at hospitals in Bhubaneswar.
The grand finale was judged by singers Shreya Ghoshal and Badshah, while special guests included Usha Uthup, Udit Narayan, Papon, Kumar Sanu, Shehnaaz Gill and Urmila Matondkar.
