Suri Cruise, the only child of Hollywood stars Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, has officially dropped her father’s famous surname and is now using the name Suri Noelle.

The 20-year-old completed the legal name change as she began her studies at Carnegie Mellon University. She adopted “Noelle”—her mother’s middle name—as her new surname, marking a step toward establishing an independent identity. The new name first became public during her high school graduation ceremony in June 2024.

Suri has largely remained out of the public spotlight since her parents divorced in 2012, having been raised primarily by Holmes. Entertainment media have linked her decision to the long-standing distance in her relationship with Cruise. Reports suggest that the father and daughter have had little to no regular contact for nearly 14 years.

Despite the family’s well-publicized history, many fans have welcomed Suri’s move as a symbol of independence and self-determination as she begins a new chapter in her life.

Meanwhile, both of her parents remain active in Hollywood. Tom Cruise is set to appear in Academy Award-winning director Alejandro González Iñárritu’s upcoming film “Digger,” scheduled for release on October 2, while Katie Holmes is working on her self-written and directed romantic drama “Happy Hours.”

Suri’s decision to forge her own identity beyond her parents’ celebrity status has sparked fresh discussion across the entertainment industry.
