Tom Holland is expected to enjoy a well-earned break before potentially returning for a fifth Spider-Man film, following the record-breaking success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
The latest Marvel blockbuster has rewritten box office history, earning an unprecedented $360 million during its opening weekend in North America. The film surpassed the previous record of $357 million, set by Avengers: Endgame in 2019, making it the biggest domestic opening of all time.
The achievement further cements Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige’s remarkable box office legacy. Feige now oversees the four biggest opening weekends in cinematic history, with Spider-Man: No Way Home ($260 million) and Avengers: Infinity War ($257 million) also among the top performers.
Globally, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has already grossed $932 million in just three days, putting it on course to cross the $1 billion mark at a record pace. Industry analysts believe the film could eventually challenge the $2 billion milestone if its momentum continues.
The movie marks Holland’s fourth solo appearance as the iconic superhero. It follows the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Peter Parker erased the world’s memory of his identity to save the multiverse. In the new film, Spider-Man continues fighting crime while struggling with the loss of his closest friends, portrayed by Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, as a mysterious new threat emerges in New York City.
With the film enjoying a spectacular global launch, attention has already turned to the future of the franchise. While Marvel has not officially announced Spider-Man 5, the blockbuster performance of Brand New Day has fuelled expectations that Holland will return after taking what industry insiders describe as a well-deserved “victory lap” following the film’s extraordinary success.
