Veteran British actor Gary Oldman has thrown his support behind his Slow Horses co-star Jack Lowden in the race to become the next James Bond, claiming that the studio has already chosen the new 007.

Oldman, who has starred alongside Lowden in the Apple TV+ series since 2022, made the comments during an interview with Canada’s The Morning Show. Asked about reports linking Lowden to the Bond role, Oldman said the actor was believed to be on the shortlist.

“We’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we? Because they have picked him,” Oldman said. “They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack.”

It remains unclear whether Oldman was sharing inside information or simply expressing his belief that Lowden could land the coveted role. Amazon MGM Studios has yet to confirm its choice.

Several actors have been linked to the role, including Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, Tom Holland, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Harris Dickinson and Lowden. The studio has so far declined to comment on the casting speculation.

The next Bond film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, with Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight writing the screenplay.

Amazon took control of the James Bond character and its intellectual property in a deal with longtime franchise producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson in February 2025.

Lowden has emerged as a prominent contender following his acclaimed performances in Slow Horses. Adding another twist to the speculation, his wife, actor Saoirse Ronan, recently said she would be interested in playing a Bond villain.

Ronan said she wanted to explore a darker role and described the idea of a young female Bond villain as dramatically interesting.

Despite the growing speculation, the identity of the next 007 remains officially unconfirmed, keeping the long-running Bond casting rumor mill alive.
