Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s three-hour documentary You Can See Everything, about disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, has made a strong debut at the North American box office, grossing $15 million from 855 theatres.

The A24 release averaged $17,544 per screen, marking the biggest opening for a film released in fewer than 1,000 locations since Borat in 2006. It also recorded the strongest documentary debut since Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11 in 2004, surpassing the $7.1 million opening of Melania earlier this year.

Made secretly over three years, the documentary maintained an air of mystery through an unconventional marketing campaign following its surprise premiere at the Telluride Film Festival. More than 2,000 screenings sold out across the United States and Canada over the weekend, with social media videos showing long queues outside cinemas.

The audience was relatively young, with 70 per cent of viewers under 35. Men accounted for 55 per cent of the audience.

The film has also received strong critical and audience responses, earning a 99 per cent critics’ approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 98 per cent audience score. It has become the highest-rated title ever on Letterboxd, with a score of 4.8.

Holmes founded Theranos, a blood-testing startup that collapsed after its technology was found to be unreliable. She was convicted of fraud and sentenced to prison. The documentary examines her life before beginning her prison sentence and is generating early Oscar buzz.

Meanwhile, Paramount Pictures’ Street Fighter, based on the Capcom video game franchise, opened with $31 million from 3,575 North American theatres. The film, directed by Kitao Sakurai and starring Noah Centineo and Andrew Koji, collected another $20.1 million from 65 international markets. Its production budget was $82 million.

Universal Pictures’ horror film Other Mommy, starring Jessica Chastain, was projected to earn $8.3 million in its second weekend, taking its domestic total to an estimated $44.8 million.

20th Century Studios’ survival thriller Whalefall, starring Austin Abrams, opened with an estimated $8 million in North America and added $9.5 million internationally.

Focus Features’ adaptation of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility, starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles, debuted with an estimated $7.2 million from 2,545 theatres.

The total North American box office for the weekend was estimated at $101.6 million, up 45 per cent from the corresponding weekend last year. Domestic box office revenue has reached about $8.2 billion so far in 2026, ahead of last year’s pace but below the pre-pandemic level recorded in 2019.
