Alia Bhatt’s spy thriller Alpha, the first female-led film in Yash Raj Films’ Spy Universe, has crossed the Rs 50 crore mark at the Indian box office despite a slowdown in collections.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 1 crore on its second Saturday, taking its India net collection to Rs 51.35 crore. Its worldwide gross has reached Rs 85.51 crore.

On its ninth day, Alpha recorded an overall theatre occupancy of 22.18%, with night shows registering the highest turnout at 31.23%. In Delhi-NCR, the film posted 19.3% occupancy across 370 shows, while Mumbai recorded 21% across 200 shows.

Despite the recent decline in daily earnings, Alpha has outperformed Alia Bhatt’s previous release, Jigra, which collected around Rs 56.93 crore worldwide against a reported budget of over Rs 80 crore.

The film is currently facing strong competition at the box office from Akshay Kumar’s Welcome to the Jungle and Ajay Devgn’s Dhamaal 4.

Directed by Shiv Rawail, Alpha is the seventh installment in the YRF Spy Universe following Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan, Tiger 3 and War 2. The action thriller also stars Sharvari, Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor in key roles.

While the film has delivered a solid box-office performance, it has received mixed-to-negative reviews from critics, with many pointing to its familiar storyline and weak screenplay despite its ambitious premise.
