Dhaka: Dhaka is once again experiencing unhealthy air quality among major cities worldwide. According to data from international air quality monitoring platform IQAir, Dhaka ranks fourth on the list of cities with the most polluted air.
As of Tuesday (September 15) morning, Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, topped the list with an Air Quality Index (AQI) score of 226. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, ranked second with a score of 193.
Jakarta, Indonesia, ranked third with an AQI score of 169. Dhaka ranked fourth with a score of 167, indicating that the city’s air is unhealthy overall and poses an increased risk, particularly to sensitive groups.
Environmental experts have advised residents to take precautions to reduce health risks amid the poor air quality. Children, elderly people, and those suffering from respiratory or heart conditions have been advised to avoid going outdoors. People have also been advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities and wear a good-quality mask when going outside.
Experts have further recommended keeping windows closed indoors and maintaining regular awareness of measures to improve air quality.
