Saudi Arabia has launched a ‘New Muslim’ card service for people who convert to Islam in the country, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

Introduced by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, the service aims to automate the entire process of declaring Islam and provide support to new converts.

The card includes a QR code that allows verification of its authenticity and confirms that it was officially issued by the relevant authority.

According to the ministry, the initiative will also help improve data management and generate accurate reports and statistics to support planning and decision-making.

In recent years, Saudi Arabia has introduced several initiatives to support Muslims in the country and pilgrims travelling for Hajj and Umrah.

One of the major initiatives is the Nusuk digital platform, which enables pilgrims to apply for Umrah and visit visas, book permits, reserve visits to Rawdah in Madinah, arrange accommodation and transportation, and access multilingual religious guidance.

The Kingdom also launched the Pilgrim Experience Programme (PEP) in 2019 to improve services for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims, including transport, accommodation, healthcare and hospitality, while preserving Islamic heritage sites in Makkah and Madinah.

Another initiative, the Makkah Route programme, allows pilgrims from participating countries to complete visa issuance, biometric registration, customs, immigration procedures, health checks and baggage processing before arriving in Saudi Arabia.

Recently, Saudi Arabia also introduced a multiple-entry Umrah visa, allowing holders to enter the Kingdom several times within a one-year validity period from the date of issuance.
