Bangladesh Police Merit Scholarships for 2024 and 2025 were awarded to 72 meritorious children of police and non-police personnel working at Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) on Monday.

The scholarship distribution ceremony was held at the conference room of the KMP Headquarters, with KMP Commissioner Md Sazzadur Rahman attending as the chief guest.

A total of 72 students received scholarship certificates, commemorative crests and cash awards. Among them, 59 secured GPA-5 in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations and 13 obtained GPA-5 in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations in 2024 and 2025.

Addressing the ceremony, the KMP commissioner said he was delighted to present the awards to the meritorious students.

“I myself attended a similar programme as a parent nearly five years ago. So, I have a personal connection with today’s event,” he said.

Sazzadur Rahman said the sacrifice, hard work and encouragement of parents play an invaluable role in their children’s success.

He particularly praised mothers for their contribution, noting that police officials remain extremely busy with their professional responsibilities while mothers make significant sacrifices to care for their children and manage family affairs.

“Without their contribution, many of us would not have been able to perform our professional responsibilities properly,” he said.

The commissioner also recalled seeing many parents with limited means making every effort to secure a better future for their children.

“When their children achieve good results, we also feel happy about their success,” he added.

Congratulating the scholarship recipients, Rahman urged them to honour their parents’ sacrifices, pursue their studies sincerely and build successful careers so that they could contribute to the welfare of the country and its people.
