Visa portal down, applicants face delays

Bangladesh’s central visa application portal has been disrupted by a technical problem, causing delays and difficulties for applicants seeking visas and related services from Bangladeshi missions abroad.

The portal, visa.gov.bd, remained inaccessible from several countries in Asia and Europe as of Tuesday evening, while applicants were reportedly unable to submit applications or complete visa-related procedures.

Officials at several Bangladeshi diplomatic missions said they had received complaints from applicants by phone and email.

However, the Department of Immigration and Passports has not provided a definite timeline for fully restoring the service.

A senior official of the department said work was underway to resolve the technical problem but did not disclose details of the issue.

Another official said the disruption began last Thursday after the server stopped functioning, adding that the system had been brought back online on a limited basis.

However, diplomatic officials said visa applications were still not being accepted despite some processing functions becoming available.

The Bangladesh High Commission in London issued an emergency notice on September 23, saying the technical problem was causing delays in processing and issuing visas and No Visa Required (NVR) services.

Bangladesh missions in Bangkok, Berlin and Lisbon have also issued notices about the disruption.

The Bangkok mission advised applicants to avoid, where possible, urgent travel plans dependent on visa processing until the system is fully operational.

The technical teams concerned are working to restore the central server as soon as possible.

The missions said further updates would be issued once the system is fully restored.
