Direct urea imports from Russia approved

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved a proposal to import urea fertiliser directly from Russia.

The proposal was approved at a committee meeting on Thursday (October 1) under the direct procurement method (DPM).

The Ministry of Industries placed the proposal at the meeting. Under the approved arrangement, the urea fertiliser will be imported directly from Delta Star Trading FZ-LLC, a company based in the United Arab Emirates.

The fertiliser will be manufactured by Russia’s JSC Shchekinoazot.

The direct procurement initiative is aimed at ensuring an adequate supply of urea fertiliser for Bangladesh’s agricultural sector.
