Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury has urged garment workers to return to their workplaces from Thursday, following the formation of a wage board to determine their minimum wages.

The minister called on workers to resume factory operations, saying the government had taken steps to address their demands.

The government formed a six-member wage board to determine new minimum wages for garment workers following days of protests over a proposed increase in the minimum monthly wage.

The board, headed by Senior District and Sessions Judge Sheikh Ashfaqur Rahman, includes representatives of both employers and workers.

The minister also urged the board members to begin discussions as soon as possible to reach a decision on the revised wage structure.
