15 minutes barefoot walk may boost wellbeing

Walking barefoot for just 15 to 30 minutes a day on grass, soil or sand may offer a range of physical and mental health benefits, according to health experts.

They say direct contact with the ground may help release excess electrical charge from the body into the earth, potentially supporting the body’s natural electrical balance.

This process, often linked to “repolarisation,” may assist cells in restoring their normal electrical state. It could also improve blood circulation by supporting the smooth movement of red blood cells.

Experts suggest that regular barefoot walking may help reduce stress, promote relaxation, enhance mental clarity and emotional wellbeing, and improve sleep quality. It may also strengthen one’s connection with nature and encourage mindfulness.

For best results, specialists recommend walking barefoot on natural surfaces such as grass, sand or soil for at least 15–30 minutes daily. Morning walks are considered particularly beneficial.

However, they caution that scientific evidence supporting these claims is still evolving, and barefoot walking should not be seen as a substitute for medical treatment. Individuals with diabetes, nerve-related conditions or foot injuries are advised to consult a doctor before adopting the practice.
