Six more children have died from suspected measles in Bangladesh over the past 24 hours, while another 1,063 children have been identified with measles or suspected measles, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The DGHS disclosed the figures in a press release issued on Sunday afternoon.
It said all six deaths recorded during the 24-hour period were suspected measles deaths. Among the 1,063 newly identified cases, 75 were confirmed measles cases and 988 were classified as suspected cases.
Since March 15, a total of 136,320 suspected measles cases have been reported nationwide, including 17,115 confirmed cases.
During the same period, 118,382 patients were admitted to hospitals, while 124,142 patients have been discharged, the DGHS said.
The country has recorded 873 measles-related deaths since March 15. Of these, 775 were suspected measles deaths and 98 were confirmed cases.
Dhaka division has recorded the highest number of measles cases and deaths, followed by Rajshahi, Chattogram, Khulna, Barishal, Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions.
