Six more children have died from suspected measles in Bangladesh over the past 24 hours, while another 1,155 children have been reported with measles or symptoms of the disease, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The DGHS disclosed the figures in a press release issued on Monday afternoon.
It said all six children who died during the 24-hour period were classified as suspected measles deaths. Among the 1,155 newly reported cases, 163 were confirmed measles infections, while 992 were classified as suspected cases.
Since March 15, a total of 137,312 suspected measles cases have been reported across the country, while 17,278 children have been confirmed to have measles, according to the DGHS.
During the same period, 119,322 patients have been admitted to hospitals with measles or suspected measles. Of them, 115,139 have been discharged after treatment.
The country has recorded 878 measles-related deaths since March 15. Of these, 780 were classified as suspected measles deaths and 98 were confirmed measles deaths.
Dhaka Division continues to record the highest number of measles cases and deaths, followed by Rajshahi, Chattogram, Khulna, Barishal, Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions.
The latest figures highlight the continuing severity of the measles outbreak, with health authorities monitoring both confirmed and suspected cases across the country.
