5 more die with measles-like symptoms in 24 Hours

Five more people have died with measles-like symptoms across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, although no deaths from confirmed measles were reported during the period.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported the figures in its measles bulletin issued on Friday (August 28), covering the period from 8am Thursday to 8am Friday.

Since March 15, a total of 960 people have died from confirmed measles and measles-like symptoms. Of them, 861 died with measles-like symptoms, while 99 deaths were confirmed to have been caused by measles.

Dhaka division has recorded the highest number of deaths among people with measles-like symptoms, with 385 fatalities, followed by Sylhet with 148. The figures are 92 in Rajshahi, 74 in Mymensingh, 64 in Chattogram, 51 in Barishal, 33 in Khulna and 14 in Rangpur.

The DGHS also reported 1,100 new cases of measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of such cases since March 15 to 154,792.

Meanwhile, 70 new cases of confirmed measles were detected in the past 24 hours. Since March 15, a total of 18,796 people have been diagnosed with measles across the country.
