Six more people have died from dengue in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, taking the country’s death toll from the mosquito-borne disease this year to 184.
Another 1,593 patients were hospitalised during the period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) bulletin issued on Sunday.
September has recorded the highest number of dengue deaths so far this year, with 87 fatalities.
Of the new patients, 171 were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka North City Corporation and 132 in Dhaka South City Corporation. Another 384 were hospitalised elsewhere in Dhaka Division.
Among other divisions, 154 patients were admitted in Barishal, 167 in Chattogram, 292 in Khulna, 82 in Mymensingh, 137 in Rajshahi, 65 in Rangpur and nine in Sylhet.
Meanwhile, 1,587 patients were discharged after treatment in the past 24 hours.
The total number of dengue hospitalisations this year has reached 61,972, while 57,610 patients have recovered and been discharged.
The DGHS has been recording dengue hospitalisations and deaths since 2000. The highest number of cases was recorded in 2023, when 321,179 people were hospitalised and 1,705 died.
Last year, more than 400 people died of dengue, while around 102,000 cases were reported.
