Bangladesh reported three more suspected measles-related deaths in the 24 hours until 8:00 am Wednesday, raising the country’s combined toll of confirmed and suspected fatalities from the ongoing outbreak to 745, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The latest deaths have been classified as suspected measles fatalities, pending laboratory confirmation.
With the new cases, the number of suspected measles deaths has increased to 652, while the number of laboratory-confirmed deaths remained unchanged at 93.
Health authorities also recorded 996 new suspected measles infections during the reporting period, taking the cumulative number of suspected cases nationwide to 108,180.
At the same time, 106 new laboratory-confirmed cases were reported, bringing the total number of confirmed measles infections to 13,070.
According to DGHS data, 91,270 patients with suspected measles have been admitted to hospitals across the country since March 15. Of them, 87,628 have recovered, while thousands of others remain under treatment or observation.
The continued rise in infections has kept health authorities on alert, with officials urging parents to ensure children receive routine measles vaccinations and to seek immediate medical attention if symptoms such as fever, rash and cough appear.
