Five more people have died with measles symptoms in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of deaths from confirmed measles and measles-like symptoms this year to 1,104.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) health bulletin issued on Tuesday, 101 people have died from confirmed measles while another 1,003 have died with measles symptoms since the beginning of the year.
Of the five deaths reported in the latest 24-hour period, three occurred in Dhaka division.
During the same period, 1,339 new patients with measles or measles-like symptoms were admitted to hospitals across the country.
Dhaka division recorded the highest number of new admissions at 516, followed by Chattogram with 279, Sylhet 206, Barishal 107, Khulna 89, Mymensingh 86, Rajshahi 29 and Rangpur 27.
According to DGHS data, a total of 168,655 patients with measles symptoms have been admitted to hospitals across the country since March 15. Of them, 161,798 have recovered and been discharged.
The number of suspected measles cases reported nationwide since March 15 has reached 190,550, including 21,392 confirmed measles cases.
