At least eight more people died of dengue in Bangladesh in the 24 hours till 8am on Wednesday, while 1,860 new patients were hospitalised, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
With the latest fatalities, the country’s dengue death toll has risen to 281 this year.
September was the deadliest month so far, with 148 deaths, while 42 people have died in the first six days of October.
The latest figures were released in the DGHS’s regular dengue bulletin on Wednesday.
The 1,860 new hospitalisations reported during the 24-hour period have taken the total number of dengue patients admitted to hospitals nationwide this year to 92,216.
The dengue outbreak has intensified in recent weeks, with health authorities reporting thousands of new infections and hundreds of deaths.
Reuters reported that more than 90,350 people had been hospitalised and 281 had died from dengue as of October 6.
