DHAKA: The United States is supporting Bangladesh’s national measles-rubella catch-up vaccination campaign through UNICEF to protect 3.4 million children aged 6 to 59 months amid the ongoing outbreak.

US Chargé d’Affaires in Bangladesh Eric Gillan visited a vaccination site at the T&T playground in Korail, Banani, Dhaka, on Wednesday.

According to a statement by US Embassy spokesperson Purnima Rai, the United States is providing support for the campaign under its “America First Global Health Strategy.”

State Minister for Health and Family Welfare MA Muhit, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan, and DNCC Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury were also present.

Also present were Miguel Mateos Munoz, chief of communications and advocacy at UNICEF Bangladesh, and Riyad Mahmud, UNICEF Bangladesh’s immunization lead.

The nationwide campaign has been launched to protect children at risk of measles and rubella as part of efforts to address the ongoing outbreak in Bangladesh.

The US assistance, provided through UNICEF, aims to strengthen the government’s immunisation programme and expand vaccination coverage among children in the targeted age group.
