Intern doctors at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) began a 24-hour work abstention on Wednesday morning, October 21, demanding adequate medical supplies and improved security at the hospital.
The protest began at 8:00am following an announcement by the Intern Doctors Society, RMCH.
The interns alleged that inpatient wards were facing severe shortages of essential medicines and medical equipment.
They also raised concerns over unrestricted entry by patients’ attendants and alleged negligence by security personnel, saying several interns had received death threats.
They further said the absence of an observation room and an operational casualty department had increased pressure on inpatient wards, making it difficult to manage the heavy patient load.
The interns placed five demands, including adequate supplies of medicines and medical equipment, comprehensive security for doctors, a limit of two attendants per patient, the active deployment of Ansar personnel in all wards, and the immediate opening of the casualty department.
They warned that further action could follow if their demands were not met.
RMCH authorities said they were holding discussions with the interns to resolve the situation.
Hospital officials said other doctors were attending to patients in the wards.alhamdulillah
