Detective Branch (DB) police have arrested five people, including alleged drug dealer and criminal Makhon alias Langra Rubel, in connection with a shooting in Dhaka’s Pallabi that left two people injured.
The arrested are Hamid Khan, Makhon alias Langra Rubel, Tanzid Ahmed alias Bappa, Parvez and Rabbi.
According to a Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) press release, DB’s Mirpur Division recovered a foreign-made pistol, two rounds of ammunition, two magazines, 1,000 yaba tablets and a vehicle allegedly used in drug trafficking.
The shooting occurred around 5:35pm on August 7 in front of Emon’s tea stall in Section 11 of Pallabi. Alamgir suffered gunshot wounds to his head and abdomen, while a passerby, Josna, was shot in the leg.
Following the incident, investigators used CCTV footage and other technology to identify a Toyota Premio allegedly used in the shooting. Police first arrested its registered owner, Hamid.
Based on information obtained from him, DB officers arrested Parvez and Rabbi in the Kalshi area and recovered a Toyota Voxy and 1,000 yaba tablets, police said.
Later, officers arrested Langra Rubel and Bappa from the Beribadh area near Eastern Housing in Rupnagar, recovering the firearm and ammunition from their possession.
DB said the shooting was triggered by a dispute over a drug transaction. The arrested individuals are also accused in several previous cases.
A case has been filed on charges of attempted murder, while separate cases under the Arms and Narcotics Control Acts are being processed.
The DB operation to apprehend other suspects involved in the incident is ongoing.
