Former education minister and MP Dr Dipu Moni has been released on parole for 12 hours following the death of her husband, Barrister Toufiq Nawaz.
She was released from Munshiganj District Jail at 6:15am on Thursday under tight police security and was taken to her residence in Dhaka’s Kalabagan.
Her parole will remain in effect until 6pm.
Toufiq Nawaz, 76, died at a private hospital in Dhaka on Tuesday night while undergoing treatment.
Dipu Moni is expected to attend his funeral prayer and burial.
According to the jail authorities, she will be returned to the prison after the 12-hour parole period ends.
