7 held over fake CID kidnapping plot in Magura

Police have detained seven people accused of posing as members of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in an alleged attempt to kidnap a woman in Sreepur upazila of Magura.

A toy pistol, four jackets marked “CID”, three helmets, a Noah microbus and eight mobile phones were recovered during the operation, police said.

Magura Superintendent of Police (SP) Molla Azad Hossain disclosed the information at a press briefing at the district police office on Wednesday.

The detainees are Asma Khatun, 31, Md Hasanuzzaman Hasan, 28, Md Osman Gani, 25, Salman Shah, 25, Md Habibur Rahman, 22, Md Sabik, 23, and Md Al Amin Hossain, 22.

Police said the suspects hail from Magura, Jhenaidah, Kushtia, Kurigram and other districts.

According to police, the Noah microbus was spotted moving suspiciously in the Nakol Paschimpara area of Sreepur late Tuesday night.

Acting on information, police launched an operation and reached the area at around 1:10am, eventually detaining the seven suspects.

Investigators are examining whether the group was involved in other criminal activities, based on information obtained during the initial interrogation.

A case has been filed with Sreepur Police Station.

SP Molla Azad Hossain said the district police remain committed to ensuring public safety, protecting human rights and curbing criminal activities.

He urged people to promptly inform law enforcement authorities of any suspicious or criminal activity.
